Meet the Team
Last Spring at Messalonskee Middle School, we started to grow our very own rice! We put a lot of effort into growing our rice so that we could harvest our own grains. Our rice won 2nd place at the common ground fair! Every Autumn, we harvest our rice, dry it out, then we make our own rice pudding out of it and a lot more! Not only do we grow rice, we also grow our own tomatoes, corn, potatoes, flowers, plants, and radishes. Our school also has some floating islands in our pond that is located at the back of our school!
Grow your Very Own Rice 1) Find a wet base like soil or clay to start (You could put lobster compost on top of the clay to ...)
2) Build a mini rock wall to keep the rice in 3) Buy rice seeds from the wild foke farm or some other place, then plant it 4) Start watering it at least once a week (Make sure it's flooded) 5) When the rice looks golden brown, then you should start to harvest it (When doing this, take scissors or something and take a little bit of the stems at a time, cut it at the very bottom, and make sure that when it's all cut, you should let the ruce dry by laying it on a table to let it dry.
